THE HISTORY OF THE CINEMA

Films are moving pictures. We can see films at the cinema, or we can watch them on television, video or DVD. A DVD gives us a better picture than a video and we can choose to watch the film in different languages.
In 1895, the Lumiere brothers showed their first film. One of their films was called Arrival of a Train at a Station. When people saw it, some of them were afraid because they thought the train was real!
The first films were in black and white. The films were silent so people couldn’t hear the actors talking. They had to read the words on the screen.
